Don't let the cover fool you, this vintage book is a wealth of information about the architecture and art within The Council House, the International Conference Center of SC Johnson and Son, Inc. This vintage book features beautiful photos of international art and artists accompanied by striking architectural photos and rare pictures of the Johnson family.
The dust jacket and spine of this vintage ex-library copy has some wear but this book is still a fantastic addition to the collection of any art, architecture, or local history enthusiast.
Located on the shore of Meadow Lake in the village of Wind Point, just north of Racine, Wisconsin, The Council House was designed by Wisconsin architect, Robert G. Wirth, to fit agreeably with its five acre country site. The building, completed in the spring of 1979, displays an architectural style of distinction and integrity that inspires remembrances of historic Wisconsin architectural forms.
"The decision of Sam Johnson and the Johnson Wax Board of Directors to place serious art in The Council House, and more important, to relate it to the homelands of those who will use the building, was the kind of inspiration that confirms the Johnson Company's image of human concern."
