Collection Focus: John McQueen at RAM
Collection Focus: John McQueen is part of series of collections-based exhibitions featuring artists whose work Racine Art Museum holds in-depth. This 20-page catalogue features full-color images of his pieces within RAM's permanent collection, an essay on the significance of McQueen's work to the field, and follows his career development.
McQueen is one of the leading artists working in fibers today. Created from the materials he finds near his rural farm, including twigs, bark, flowers, weeds, and vines, McQueen has explored the nature of basketry traditions, from the viewpoint of an artist trained in contemporary sculpture. He has been active in the forefront of the movement to have fiber viewed as an appropriate medium in which to create significant artworks.
