Nancy Y. Adams—Horny Toad Box

Oregon-based artist Nancy Adams is a life-long lover of nature and all kinds of animals and plants, which is evident in the loving way she creates from clay. Her work—which can be found in the permanent collection of the Racine Art Museum—is inspired in Greco-Roman and Egyptian mythologies as well as Native American interpretation of life through totems.

Adams' joyful wheel-thrown earthenware vessels and carved flora and fauna motifs have an elegant symmetry. Each piece is airbrushed with low fire glazes and underglazes before being kiln fired, which gives them a soft, velvety texture.
