Marcia Docter—Spiderman (Small)
The original embroidery Even Though They Were Underwater They Still Spoke Evil, 1996, is in the collection of the Racine Art Museum. Marcia Docter donated giclee prints of the original to RAM. Stunning in their accuracy this vivid print portrays Spiderman submerged in an enclosure as vertical cascades of water fill the foreground. Doctor's work features social commentary and contemporary feminist issues. It is influenced by Pop art, Japanese Kabuki Theater, and imagery and text of witty comic book heroes, superheroes and villains which place her contemporary rendering in the forefront of the textile movement.
The print is unframed and will be sent flat. There are two edition sizes, the smaller is an edition of 36, with an image size of 8 x 8 inches (paper size is 13 x 13 inches). The image is surrounded by a 2 1/2 inch white border.
